Sub-species

There’s still a lot of confusion about the sub-species. Many are brought back under the 2nd name collaris. To stil identify colour and pattern they are often called by their old name. Big differences in build and habitat usually means they are real sub-species. Collaris and bisinctorus are sub-species, no doubt about it.

The first name starts with a capital letter. This describes the species. In describing this species, the name may be debrieved. In this case Crotaphytus becomes Cr. The 2nd name may never be debrieved. This indicates the sub-species concerned. The 3rd name can indicate the region or it’s discoverer. Other names may indicate colour, origin or variation. They are not official.

Cr. collaris collaris Cr. bisinctorus
Cr. vestigium Cr. grismeri
Cr. dickersonea Cr. nebrius
Cr. reticulatis
